There’s something about commitment
That scares and steadies the heart all at once.
Scary because it means forsaking other options,
Steadying because now you have tethered your very existence
To a piece of land
To a cause
A business
A person.
To be invested,
To throw in your lot with anything on this Third Rock from the Sun
Is risky business:
Many a cautionary tale
Speak of wasted years
And broken hearts-
Yet those same hearts would have inevitably found something to love
And the time would have been spent either way,
So why not give our hearts
And spend our time
With intention?
If we are going to live,
We may as well do so
With all we’ve got.
