You didn’t save as much money as you could have last year and now things are tight.
You were rude.
You didn’t make the phone call when it really mattered and now it will count for less.
You lied to protect yourself.
You sold yourself short.
You failed.
So you’ve messed up, now what?
Now we own it.
“We” because who you are matters to the people around you
And your messes inevitably become theirs to.
“Own” because nothing sinks a relationship quicker
Than an unclaimed offence,
And “it” is the thing we learn in this moment
That leads us to truly change.
Some things, once damaged,
Can never be repaired
But doing the work of owning up to our mess
Is always better than the alternative.
