Black boy joy

O to just be happy
Living in this body.
To let the sun kiss my face
And not just harden it,
For the soil to bear up me with kindness
And not ruthlessly demand my sweat or my blood,
To be held by arms that hold me dearly
In a world that sees me not as fodder for a corporate machine
Nor as an obvious threat of violence and deceit
But that sees and delights in
A black boy
A welcomed son
A cherished being
Alive to the world
Savoring its sweets.
