Post-colonial states
Are nations of miracles,
With historical baggage
That is far deeper
Than any one of us can unpack,
And ongoing structural violence
That seems to mutate itself
Even in the absence of an obvious perpetrator:
Riddled with poverty,
Overshadowed by inequality
Drowning in preventable disease
And grappling a perpetual identity crisis-
Post colonial states
Have enough pressure
To fully implode.
And yet they don’t.
They seem to find a strength
They did not know they had,
And somehow make a life
Out of the scraps that remain.
