On self-harm

We are always just one decision away
From self-destruction.
One bitter thought away
From sabotaging our relationships,
One attitude of self-pity away from
Making every moment about ourselves.
Our propensity towards self-harm
Is disturbingly persistent.
Desiring the forbidden fruit
As though none of the others were good enough,
Leaning into our depravity
As though it were in our best interests to do so.
We need saving-
Not just from devils
And people who wish us harm
But from the urges within ourselves
That drive us toward

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
-Matthew 6:13
