This powerful thing
That connects billions
And divides them from
Billions of others,
This thing that allows some of us
To walk thoughtlessly through the world
Assuming it was built with us in mind,
And yet this same thing
Reminds so many others of us
That they need to hurry up and ‘upgrade’ themselves
If they want to belong.
English unites and divides us
It opens up so many aspects of human life
While shutting down so many others
Like water that gives life to one crop
But drowns out another
