The pace of approval

There is a pernicious thought
That tells us that our work only matters 
When it is applauded,
That our lives only count 
When they are seen and celebrated
By others.
But what if the message we carry
Is one that 
The world is not ready to hear? 
What if our purpose on this earth
Is to hold up a mirror 
To the people around us,
And uncover truths 
That they’d rather not see?
As exhilarating as approval can be,
It is a mistake 
To only run fast
When people speak well of you 
And your work,
For you will likely stumble and maybe even come to a complete stop
When they are no longer 
Singing your praises. 

The fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.
