False Starts

Sometimes its not that you hadn’t prepared
Or failed to count the cost,
Its that you were too certain
That it would work,
Too dismissive of the prospect of failure.
Its not that you didn’t care
Its that you hadn’t anticipated
That your heart would move on
That your priorities would change.
False starts
Aren’t indications of a fickle character
A weak will
Or a deceptive intention,
But a sign that
Even when we do our best
Some things are just not
Meant to be-
Or at least,
Not right now.
