Joy,
Unlike milk
Isn’t so great
When its skimmed.
Its like trading in
A queen for a pawn,
Choosing a career
Over choosing a life,
Putting together experiences
But never quite coming alive,
When your diary
Has little space
For actual enjoyment
Of a given season,
But plenty of time
For complaining about it.
Joy helps us savour the days
And gives colour to the moments,
Joy should not be skimmed-
Not light and foamy
As a topping that comes
After all the important stuff
Is out the way.
Joy is best enjoyed
Slowly,
Spontaneously
Deeply and richly
And on its own terms.
Prioritise joy
You need it more than you think.
