Esau pleaded, “But do you have only one blessing? Oh my father, bless me, too!” Then Esau broke down and wept.
Genesis 27:38
There was Esau;
Empty handed,
Broken-hearted
At the feet of his father,
Tricked by his brother,
Tears streaming down his face
Pleading for a blessing
From his father’s lips
That had been intercepted
By his trickster brother, Jacob.
His father, Isaac,
Had only one blessing.
And once it was given-
There was no other to give.
But God is bigger than Isaac-
His blessings have made
Rivers flow
And crops to grow
He raises men from infants
And infants have come from men,
One generation of mankind
Giving rise to another
For centuries.
His blessings span far
And run deep,
Reviving weary hearts
Steadying weak hands.
Unlike, Isaac,
God has more than one blessing,
More than one gift to give
More than one good chapter in your story.
Wise is the man
Who can loosen his grip
On the gift
And grab a hold of the
Giver Himself.
