Being online
Doesn’t obligate a person
To to giving you their attention,
And them seeing a message
Is not the same as
Being ready to respond to it.
The promise of instant messaging
Is that a message
Can be drafted on one device
And then sent by a series
Of networks to another device
In seconds.
In other words,
The instant part
Of instant messaging
Is achieved by the tech.
But that says nothing
About how the message
Will be received
And how quickly it will be
Responded to.
Which is the human part.
And as with anything
That involves other humans;
Things often don’t go
As planned and as such,
A little bit of patience
Goes a long way.
