Not much in our emotional lives
Is random.
Friction adds up
And doesn’t go away when you ignore it.
Like rust, it slowly builds
Into corners of resentment
Nooks of bitterness
Carving out a private lounge of victimhood.
And often it’s the external blow outs
That get all the attention-
The obviously threatening situations
That could derail your life.
But healing is more than
Putting out little fires everywhere
Or building a hedge around your insecurities.
Because trauma runs deep.
For some of us,
It may take a lifetime to truly grasp that
Underneath the problem you’re dealing with
Is the problem that you’re not.
