Are an asset for a windmill farm
But a disaster for fruit trees.
Strong opinions are like strong winds
They can drive important conversations along
But if we’re not careful
We may just make it really unlikely
For the fruits of other people’s minds
To flourish in our presence.
Blowing other people over
In righteous crusades of debate
Often leaves to a double loss:
First you lose the people you are speaking to
Because they’ve checked out long ago
And secondly the very knowledge you so passionately
Wanted to share, now falls on deaf ears.
So if you all that matters is just your words-
Then let the winds blow
But if you still need people standing
After you have spoken
You’d do well to learn
To whisper.
