Leaps of faith

You probably should not take one everyday,
Because, by nature, they do not always work out.
Real leaps involve real risks.
The consequences can be devastating
The weight of disappointment can
Drive the air right out of your lungs,
Leave you flat on your back.
Dashed hopes don’t mend quickly.
That voice in your head will not hesitate
To say ‘I told you so’.
And there is a real chance that the haters
Were right this time around.
Scary business, this leaping.
You probably shouldn’t put your heart
Through that every day.

Yet when the time comes to take one,
Count the cost and
Do it anyway.
