There is something insidious about seeking validation.
At first its a fairly reasonable hope
That someone will notice your work.
Acknowledge you existence.
Say ‘thank you’ for doing something worthwhile.
Yet it can also be its own drug;
A notification on your posts
A facial expression from a reader
A mentor’s approval
Can all start to feel like the reason
Why you show up in the first place.
Being ignored is tough,
But it happens sometimes.
Some days you will not delight the fans.
Some of your most honest work may not be understood
by those you desperately want to understand it.
And on days like that, when the validation
is hard to come by,
It may be in your best interest
to have another reason to show up again tomorrow.
The fear of man will prove to be a snare
but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.
