Racing to our knees

There is a journey towards truth,

Available to all

Where the destination is not building a castle of fame

Where we might hide and find a precarious identity,

Making a god of our achievements

And enslaving our hearts to applause and pomp.

No.

This is a different race,

Where rather than accumulating accolades

We are being urged to abandon our crowns as we go

Compelled to surrender our ambitions,

To forsake our confidence in ourselves

And allow ourselves to be led as children,

To free our hearts from finite instruments

That we might grasp eternal symbols.

This is a journey to our knees

A race against our own pride

To be the first at the altar,

That we might slay our self-absorption

And conceit.

Ours is a journey towards radical humility

The kind that does not seek a common glory of self-exaltaion

But an  uncommon glory;

A paradox of laying down in order to be raised up,

Of finding treasure in unlikely places,

Finding freedom from releasing others

Discovering riches by giving them away.

This is a race to the bottom

Where the path towards greatness is in

Becoming a servant to many.

 

 

Your attitude should be same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature

God

Did not consider equality 

With God something to be grasped

But He made Himself nothing

Taking the very nature of

A servant,

Being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance

As a man,

He humbled Himself

And became obedient to

death – 

even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted Him

To the highest place 

And gave Him the name that is above every name

Philippians 2:5-9
