The problem with thinking, ‘There’s nothing I can do about this,” is that when there comes an opportunity for you to do something about it, you do nothing. So convinced you are of your powerlessness that even when you are not, your expectation of yourself and of what is possible are so low, your powerlessness becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. And not because there really is nothing you can do, you just believe that to be so. Indeed we do not live in the world as it really is but how we perceive it to be.
